Vaneggesa Sumanasekara is a writer, translator and a film critique. He has studied philosophy at the Middlesex University and Kingston University, both in London, United Kingdom. He has published three books and numerous essays on a wide array of topics including philosophy, cinema, politics and art theory. Apart from his own research work he has also translated a book into Sinhala and another one is forthcoming as a Theertha publication, in 2019. One of the leading commentators of contemporary French philosophy, Vangeesa has pioneered the Sinhala language discussions on some of today’s most important thinkers including Alain Badiou, Jacques Ranciere and Quentin Meillassoux. He has taught at various universities as a visiting lecturer including the University of Kelaniya, University of Sri Jayawardenapura, University of Visual and Performing Arts and the Post Graduate Institute of Archaeology. He is currently working as the Principle Lecturer in Philosophy at the Theertha School of Art.
